November 8, 2010 — Spider Holster, a company specializing in unique holster-style carrying solutions for photographers, today announced its new Spider Holster Black Widow Camera Holster, which offers entry-level DSLR camera users comfort and security combined with quick-draw access. By moving the camera to the photographer’s hip, the Holster concept eliminates neck, shoulder and back strain as well as the discomfort caused by a cameras dangling from traditional straps. Ideal for shooters wanting to keep their hands free at all times while ensuring their camera is ready for action, the lightweight Black Widow is a comfortable and secure fast-access carrying solution.

Combining the strength of stainless steel and heavy-duty resin, the lightweight and durable Black Widow was designed to take entry-level DSLRs and mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras from hip to hand in a flash. Perfect for hands-free carrying, the Black Widow is ideal when setting up a tripod, cheering on a favorite sports team or pushing a baby carriage on vacation. The Black Widow allows great freedom of movement and positions the camera where it’s always poised for action with a degree of comfort unattainable with traditional straps and bags.

“Having your camera ready means you won’t ever miss that perfect shot” said Shai Eynav, President of Spider Holster. “Traditionally this has meant accepting the strain of carrying a camera on a neck strap or in a shoulder bag which can be taxing or even damaging to the body. With the Black Widow Camera Holster, the camera stays put at the photographer’s hip, providing maximum comfort while ensuring that the user is in the best possible position to capture life’s best moments. Professionals who need immediate access to their equipment already rely on our products and we’re thrilled to provide a holster that every DSLR user can enjoy.”

While the Black Widow easily threads onto any leather belt, Spider Holster is also offering its own Black Widow Belt. A favorite accessory among female photographers, the Holster belt is designed for unparalleled all-day comfort and matches the Black Widow’s sleek appeal. Also available as an accessory, the Black Widow Plate positions the camera to hang upside down so the valuable lens is not pointed at the ground or jutting out from the body, while also ensuring that any quick release plate can be used to mate with the user’s own tripod.

In addition to providing a comfortable carrying solution, the Black Widow also offers added peace of mind. When the camera is slid into the holster, the Black Widow’s built-in locking mechanism makes an audible click so the photographer knows the camera is properly positioned and secure. November 5, 2010 — Sigma Corporation of America (www.sigmaphoto.com) is pleased to announce that the company’s 85mm F1.4 EX DG HSM lens is now available for purchase in the United States for the MSRP of ,400 and the estimated street price of 9.

This large aperture, medium telephoto lens is optimized for use with full-frame, DSLR cameras and is especially ideal for portrait and low light photography. When used on digital cameras with an APS-C size image sensor, it effectively becomes a 127.5mm F1.4 lens.

“This lens is an excellent addition to our prime lens line-up and is a great performer for a variety of photographers. For the sports or photojournalist photographer, the Hyper Sonic Motor will keep up with fast-paced action sequences; the 1.4 maximum aperture provides the ability to work at high shutter speeds under low existing light conditions,” said Mark Amir-Hamzeh, general manager of Sigma Corporation of America. “That same high-speed aperture is great for a portrait photographer who is looking to isolate details in their subject, with a pleasant, out-of-focus background. One-touch, full-time manual focus is perfect for the critical, professional photographer.”

The 85mm F1.4 EX DG HSM also contains one Special Low Dispersion (SLD) glass element and a glass mold element to offer excellent correction for all types of aberrations and to ensure superior optical performance. This lens is equipped with a rear focus system that minimizes fluctuation of aberration caused by focusing.

The Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghost, even in backlight photography. The lens has a round, nine-blade diaphragm, which creates an attractive blur to the out-of-focus images, and comes with a petal-type hood to block out extraneous light. For digital cameras with an APS-C size image sensor, Sigma provides a dedicated hood adapter to expand the length of the lens hood and to block out extraneous light more effectively.

Lensbaby Scout with Fisheye

November 1, 2010 — Lensbaby’s newest lens gives photographers a versatile and affordable option for Fisheye photography, plus access to all of the unique creative photography effects offered within the Lensbaby Optic Swap™ System.

Lensbaby announced the release of Scout with Fisheye, a fun and affordable manual focus Fisheye SLR camera lens available in mounts for all popular SLR camera bodies. Scout, the first Lensbaby lens that does not bend, features the Fisheye Optic, which delivers an ultra-wide 12mm focal length capable of capturing a 160 degree angle of view from infinity all the way down to 1/2 inch from the front of the lens. The Fisheye Optic can also create unique flare effects in an image.

Due to the extremely wide angle of view of the Fisheye Optic, full frame shooters will generally see a black circle around almost the entire image, and APS-sized sensor shooters will see black at the corners of their images. With Scout, the Fisheye image is always ideally situated in the center of the frame.

The Fisheye Optic features a creative lens flare effect that causes the edge areas that would ordinarily be black, to glow with color whenever there are bright light sources in the image. This lens flare effect is particularly apparent when shooting with a full frame camera though it is also noticeable when shooting with APS-sized sensors.

The ability to focus one half inch in front of the lens provides an extraordinary way to explore macro photography. Get close enough to a flower to nearly touch it – while capturing the entire garden surrounding it in the frame.

The Fisheye Optic’s quality optical design and craftsmanship includes six multi-coated glass elements and a precision, aluminum body. Scout’s exceptional build quality includes incredibly smooth manual focus. The Scout with Fisheye ships with the Fisheye Optic installed, but photographers can use other Lensbaby Optic Swap™ System optics such as Soft Focus, Pinhole/Zone Plate, Double Glass, Single Glass, and Plastic. With Lensbaby’s selective focus optics (Double Glass, Single Glass, and Plastic), the sweet spot of focus will always be centered in the photo.

All Lensbaby Optic Swap System optics can be swapped in and out of Lensbaby lenses, providing photographers with a wide range of creative effects. When a photographer wants to change the optic in their Lensbaby, they simply pop the optic out with the Optic Changing Tool and drop in a different optic. Each optic has different features and image qualities, allowing photographers to choose the creative look that expresses their unique vision.

The Scout with Fisheye retails for 9.95 from select specialty photo stores worldwide and from www.lensbaby.com or by calling 877-536-7222 / 971-223-5662. For more information, visit www.lensbaby.com.
